Staying Safe
We do not manufacture cars, neither do we declare that our approach to building our MEV Rocket is the best.
In reporting what we have done in each step of the build, we are not advocating that it is the definitive way.
Our approach is to safeguard ourselves during the build and create a vehicle in which we will be happy to travel, and would also be happy for other to travel in.
We would recommend that you create a build plan that takes into account any potential risk to yourself and others who may assist you, clearly identifying where risks to you Health and Safety MAY exist. Once you have identified any risks, you should supplement your build plan with a safety agenda, ensuring that you have the correct resources, whether they be specialist tools, extra pairs of hands, or just a First Aid Kit for those inevitable knuckle scrape moments.
We NEVER:
Work alone under a vehicle.
Lose sight of safety requirements when working in vehicle breakers yards.
Use open flame sources of heating.
Use vehicle fuel for the purposes of cleaning components.
Work on engines where cam/fan/alternator etc. belts are uncovered.
Store vehicle fuel or fluids in anything other than suitable or original containers.
We DO:
Closely supervise any person who may consent to assist us.
Remain mindful of the safety requirements of others when working in vehicle breakers yards.
Work with a plan that addresses all potential SVA testing pitfalls.
Keep a record of anything that goes wrong/forces us to change out build schedule, so we can go back to it.
Double check with a tick list, for the correct tightening torques of vehicle components during the build.
Dispose of sharp items (offcuts from the floor panel, used Stanley knife blades, etc.) in a sealed container.
Keep a written record of the fluids and their volumes that we have put into the car's systems.
Take as many photographs as possible during donor dismantling and subsequent kit build.
